We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) Team Leader to lead and inspire a skill-mixed public health nursing team delivering the 019 Public Health Nursing Service.
As a Registered Nurse or Midwife with postgraduate SCPHN qualification, you will bring substantial experience to manage, co-ordinate and supervise a diverse team of specialist, registered and support staff. You will ensure the safe, effective delivery of key national programmes, including the Healthy Child Programme, safeguarding responsibilities, and wider public health priorities.
Management, supervision and support of all the staff working in the Public Health Nursing team to deliver the Healthy Child Programme and Safeguarding responsibilities to the standards defined in the service specification.
Manage the Public Health Nursing team demonstrating effective use of resources and workforce planning by monitoring workload and, responsible for efficient rostering, maintain appropriate staffing levels and skill mix taking account of role and competence of staff.
Maintain own clinical competence as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, practising for a minimum 0.4wte in own area of specialist practice, supporting practice actively by working closely with the team, providing teaching, supervision and development.
To deliver supervision -clinical, management and safeguarding - as per the service policy and participate in the safeguarding duty rota.
Lead the escalation of childrens needs and safety plans to challenge decisions and practice when required, within a multi-agency working environment, following SBCs escalation policy.
To embed best practice through quality assurance activities providing assurance that practice meets all CQC, ICB, SEND, OFSTED and SSP standards and regulations.
Play a key role in preparing for and being part of inspections from statutory and regulatory bodies.
Be the named preceptor to newly qualified SCPHNs and support them through preceptorship.
Ensure that clinical assessments, targeted and specialist interventions, support plans are in place to ensure that management of health, care and wellbeing of children, young people and families, in line with agreed service procedures and national legislation.
Work with multiple stakeholders to deliver solutions in complex and broad cases, providing expertise and technical knowledge to support residents of Swindon, as well as providing guidance to more junior members of staff.
Represent the Council in multidisciplinary work with health, police and other colleagues, working collaboratively to ensure effective communication and information sharing to support decision making processes on specific cases, projects, or areas of work.
Use advanced skills and knowledge within their area to assess, support planning and manage risks for children, young people and families, applying SSP and Council policy to lead the team to manage risk appropriately.
Supports the Professional Lead for implementation of national standards for management of incidents, risks and clinical safety (i.e. Patient Safety Incident Response Framework).
Decides and applies agreed standards to services, identifying improvements and developments locally, that can be influenced by best-in-class externally.
Build relationships with colleagues and internal and external stakeholders/customers to deliver expert social, health and care services to residents of Swindon.
Any other duties and/or accountabilities commensurate with the roles seniority to meet the needs of residents, through the application of relevant knowledge, skills and experience within the specialism of the role.
