Technical Manager, Sustainability Audit and Assurance

We're looking for a Technical Manager, Sustainability Audit and Assurance to join our team inLondon on a permanent basis to support ICAEW members with timely and practical support on sustainability audit and assurance issues, through the creation and dissemination of guidance and commentary. Also, to shape ICAEW policy and champion ICAEW's reputation and influence in sustainability audit and assurance matters, particularly in relation to audit quality, UK audit reform, and proposals for the improvement of UK and international sustainability auditing and assurance standards and practice.

This role offers a salary of £75,000 - £85,000 per annum and a hybrid working pattern of 2 days in the office and 3 days from home each week.



What you will be doing;

The primary responsibilities of this role are to:

  • Engage directly with key stakeholders within and outside the profession on key policy issues and challenges in sustainability audit and assurance.
  • Develop ICAEW technical policy positions on sustainability audit, assurance and ethics matters, including formulating representations to regulators and standard setters and coordinating outreach with ICAEW members.
  • Create and curate high quality implementation support and guidance for ICAEW members on sustainability auditing, assurance and ethics standards and other related areas.
  • Champion sustainability audit quality across the profession by proactively responding to challenges and developing thought leadership on key developments and proposals for change.
  • Collaborate with departments across ICAEW to deliver sustainability audit,assurance and ethics content and events of the highest quality and to ensure that existing content is up-to-date and fit for purpose.
  • Raising awareness and communicating key developments to members through writing articles for ICAEW Insights and other media channels.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and active members to identify issues, challenges, and opportunities for new guidance.Specific duties will vary from time to time in line with the business needs.
  • What you will need;

    • Be an ICAEW Chartered Accountant.
    • Have a good understanding of developments in sustainability assurance and ethics, or ability and willingness to learn these areas if coming from a reporting/assurance background.
    • Hold an interest in emerging issues such as nature and social‑related and sustainability assurance.
    • Ability to plan effectively, prioritise work and focus resources for maximum impact.
    • Experience in roles with a strong technical research component, or enthusiasm to undertake such work.
    • Be a strong team worker with good interpersonal skills.
    • Confident engaging with policymakers, senior stakeholders and leaders of the profession.
    • High‑quality written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong management skills, including:
      • Monitoring work, progress and priorities.
      • Building effective working relationships across ICAEW.
      • Ensuring activities and policy align with, and support, ICAEW's strategy.
  • Ability to uphold high-quality standards of work within the Sustainability Reporting & Assurance team and the chartered accountancy profession, including working within peer review processes.
