Treating Tobacco Dependency Advisor (Internal only)

The Treating Tobacco Dependency Advisor will support the delivery of the Trust's treating tobacco dependency service, providing specialist behavioural support to help patients stop smoking during their hospital stay and after discharge. Recognising tobacco dependence as a chronic, treatable condition, the role promotes a smoke-free environment and improved patient health outcomes.

Hours per week: 15

The post is part-time (15 hours per week) and offered as a secondment/fixed-term contract for 12 months in the first instance.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Good General Education with GCSE English and Mathematics.
• European Computer Driving License (ECDL) or equivalent experience.
• Level 3 Health or social care qualification (e.g. NVQ or similar) or equivalent experience.

Desirable

• Evidence of continued role development.
• Basic counselling.
• National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training (NCSCT) Level 3 Training.
• Specific training in health promotion interventions.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

• Relevant Health or Social Care experience.
• Experience of providing healthcare, healthcare advice or health. improvement/promotion advice to patients or members of the public.
• Experience of using electronic records, eg MEDITECH Digital Clinical System and EMIS.

Desirable

• Advanced knowledge of medical terminology.
• Experience of supporting patients and smoke free pathways.
• Experience of coaching/teaching patients and carers.

Essential

• Fully supportive of Trust's smoke free policy acting as a smoke free champion.
• Able to work quickly and accurately.
• Able to produce work to a high standard.
• Competent telephone manner.
• Methodical approach to work.
• Effective workload management and ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to visit multiple wards/departments/sites as required.
• Current non-smoker - due to nature of post.

Desirable

• Intermediate theoretical knowledge of stop smoking support, gained through Level 2 National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training or willing to undertake within 3 months of starting in post.
