Description

We're seeking a skilful and passionate Technical Wastewater Specialist to join our Wastewater Strategy team and drive the development of our sewage treatment solutions for PR29 and AMP9.

What you'll do

This is an opportunity to join Wessex Water at a time of unprecedented change for the company and sector, with the potential for you to make a huge difference within your role. Our investment plan proposes a doubling of investment over the next five years, and a large proportion of this is in wastewater.

As a Technical Wastewater Specialist, you will be pivotal in shaping the scale of our investment in the future, including the solutions that will be used as part of our wastewater and environmental programmes in AMP9. Consequently, you will have a huge variety of responsibilities and the ability to significantly influence all levels of the business plan and, in turn, the future of the water industry.

You'll need to be able to switch between the big picture and details quickly. This will include working with your colleagues to ensure alignment across our long-term strategies, such as our Drainage and Wastewater Management Plan (DWMP), Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and Long-Term Delivery Strategy (LTDS).

What you'll need

You'll need to be technically skilled but also question usual processes to ensure we're proposing the best solutions for our customers and the environment. This role will suit someone who has knowledge and experience of designing wastewater treatment solutions, but also can explain the need for these solutions in a strategic context.

You will need:

  • to be degree qualified or equivalent, preferably a chartered engineer or equivalent status
  • excellent oral and written communication skills
  • personal skills to enable effective working with people at all levels
  • expert knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and options
  • excellent knowledge of relevant financial and environmental regulatory frameworks
  • knowledge of wastewater operations and the cost of proposed investments
  • experience in asset management and its application to wastewater treatment.

What you'll receive

  • A combined pension contribution of up to 20%.
  • Career progression and professional development opportunities.
  • 25 days' holiday rising to 28 with length of service.
  • The opportunity to sell up to five days of holiday every year.
  • The opportunity to buy up to ten days of holiday each year (subject to conditions).
  • A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
  • Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
  • The opportunity to lease a new electric car through salary sacrifice (subject to conditions).
  • Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
  • One paid volunteering day each year.
  • Enhanced family leave and pay arrangements.
  • Access to an interactive health and wellbeing platform.
  • Support from trained mental health first aiders.
  • A £1,000 referral fee if you recommend someone who is successfully recruited by us.
