About the role

At The Institute of Chartered Accountants England & Wales (ICAEW), you'll be part of an organisation that's shaping the future of business, finance and the accountancy profession on a global scale. Our bold Direction 2030 strategy puts members, innovation, sustainability and trust at the heart of everything we do; creating an exciting, forward looking environment where your work has real impact. We invest in our people through our benefits package, continuous development and a supportive, inclusive culture that empowers you to grow and thrive. We're looking for a Data Engineer to join our team in Milton Keynes on a permanent basis. This role offers a salary of £48,000 - £53,000 per annum with a hybrid working pattern.

ICAEW is evolving the way it manages and uses data by modernising how data is ingested, modelled and shared across the organisation. This work will help improve analytics, reporting and decision-making across a wide range of business areas.

As a Data Engineer, you will design and build data pipelines, integrations and data models that support these initiatives. Working closely with the Data Engineering Lead, Architects and Analysts, you'll contribute to the team's engineering practices and help deliver reliable, scalable data solutions that enable colleagues to make better use of data.

What you will be doing:

  • Build and maintain robust data pipelines, ingestion processes and integrations using Azure Data Factory and Databricks and related services.
  • Develop and maintain datasets and data models that support analytics and reporting, following established modelling standards
  • Contribute to data lineage, metadata management and cataloguing practices, including exposure to Purview
  • Work closely with the Lead Data Engineer, Analysts and Architects to develop and improve engineering standards and practices
  • Collaborate with other engineers through pairing, code reviews and shared problem-solving
  • What you will need:

    • Solid hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, including end-to-end pipeline delivery
    • Proficient in Python, Spark and SQL for data processing and transformation
    • Experience with Databricks in a production or near-production environment
    • Practical experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines in a cloud environment
    • Working knowledge of data modelling concepts including star schema and dimensional modelling

Please see full job description attached.

    About sponsorship for this role

Does this job guarantee visa sponsorship?

Not necessarily. ICAEW holds a sponsor licence, but sponsorship for a specific hire is always the employer's decision. Be upfront in your application that you'll require it.

What salary is needed for this role to be eligible?

The offer must clear both the general threshold and the SOC 5242 going rate of £41,700. New-entrant and shortage discounts can lower it.
