Is my university on the HPI visa list?

Last reviewed 14 July 2026 · First published 8 July 2026

The UK High Potential Individual (HPI) visa lets recent graduates of top global universities work in the UK without a job offer. Pick your university and graduation year to check the official Global Universities List, including the older lists that still apply to earlier graduates. Not on the list? Most people come to the UK on a Skilled Worker visa through a licensed sponsor instead.

Where are HPI-eligible universities?

Every university on the 2025 HPI Global Universities List is outside the UK, concentrated in the United States and a handful of other countries. Explore the map, or read the full list below.

Frequently asked questions

What is the HPI visa Global Universities List?
The High Potential Individual (HPI) visa lets recent graduates of top non-UK universities work in the UK without a job offer. To qualify, your university must appear on the Home Office's Global Universities List for the year your qualification was awarded. The list is published annually and changes each year.
How do I know if my university is on the HPI list?
Use the checker above: select your university and graduation year. Because eligibility depends on the list that was in force when you were awarded your qualification, the tool checks the correct annual list (each list covers awards made between 1 November and 31 October the following year), not just the current one.
Do UK universities count for the HPI visa?
No. The Global Universities List is made up entirely of non-UK institutions. UK graduates use the Graduate visa instead. If your university isn't on the list, you can still work in the UK through a Skilled Worker visa with a licensed sponsor.
How recent does my degree have to be for the HPI visa?
Your qualification must have been awarded within the 5 years before you apply. Even if your university is on the list, a degree older than 5 years will not qualify you for the HPI visa.
Why does my graduation year matter?
The list changes every year — universities are added and removed. A university on the 2022 list may not be on the 2025 list, and vice versa. Eligibility is assessed against the list for the year your qualification was awarded, so the graduation year is essential to a correct answer.
