Emergency Department Assistant

Job description

Main responsibilities include the essential care of patients,, safe transfer of patients around the hospital and general tasks such as waste management and maintaining a suitable and hygienic environment for our patients.

The candidate will comply with all relevant policies and procedures to maintain the safety of patients within the Emergency Department.

Successful candidates will ensure patient's safety, comfort and welfare and provide support to the patient's relatives and advocates as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Desirable

NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care

EXPERIENCE

Essential

Experience as a Health Care Assistant in a permanent post.
Experience of working as part of a team
Experience of organising and prioritising own workload
Experience of NHS computer systems
Experience in the Emergency Department

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES

Essential

Basic IT skills to be able to document on the electronic patient record

Ability to work under pressure

Ability to recognise when support is required

Ability to make shared clinical and professional decisions taking into consideration Trust/Departmental Policies/Procedures

Flexible

Good organisational skills

A knowledge and practical experience of manual handling

Ability to communicate effectively in English, in a variety of settings with patients of varying levels of understanding information and refer questions to others where appropriate

Able to deal with sensitive issues with tact and diplomacy

Ability to develop effective interpersonal relationships with colleagues in the health care setting.

Good attendance record
