SOC 2129 is an eligible occupation, but we classified this role with low confidence (38% match). If the code is right — and Siemens Energy is a licensed sponsor — it should qualify, but double-check the occupation eligibility rules against the actual role.

Strategic tip: apply early

Sponsored roles fill quickly, and the ones that name a salary go quickest. If this one looks right, apply in the first few days rather than saving it for the weekend.

About the role

A Snapshot of Your Day

Join a dedicated team where your expertise in protection engineering will shine! You will focus on delivering bay-level protection engineering for substation projects, overseeing relay application, device configuration, logic implementation, and test preparation from concept through to commissioning support. Collaborating closely with Secondary Systems Design and Substation Automation colleagues, you will ensure that protection and control solutions are integrated, testable, and ready for customer review. Your day will be filled with configuring relays, building and checking settings, and preparing test evidence to demonstrate that schemes work as intended, all while maintaining clear communication with Project Managers and customers.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Take Technical Responsibility: Own the protection and control engineering scope on allocated projects, including reviewing and approving settings, logic, and test strategies.
  • Provide Senior Input: Contribute to standards application, protection philosophies, customer specifications, and engineering governance within the P&C scope.
  • Support Design Reviews: Engage in design reviews, hazard reviews, and project safety reviews, considering CDM and testing risk where applicable.
  • Lead Technical Clarifications: Act as the point of contact for technical clarifications with customers and suppliers regarding protection schemes and acceptance criteria.
  • Assist in Bids and Planning: Support bids, technical offers, effort estimates, and engineering planning for the P&C scope.

What You Bring

  • Proven Leadership: Experience in leading and mentoring engineers, with a focus on quality and documentation discipline.
  • Technical Expertise: 12+ years in protection and control engineering for substations, including configuration, testing, and commissioning practices.
  • Strong Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence in customer-facing discussions during FAT and technical reviews.
  • Educational Background: Degree, HND, or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with Standards: Good understanding of protection philosophies, relay functions, and IEC 61850 applications.

    About sponsorship for this role

Does this job guarantee visa sponsorship?

Not necessarily. Siemens Energy holds a sponsor licence, but sponsorship for a specific hire is always the employer's decision. Be upfront in your application that you'll require it.

What salary is needed for this role to be eligible?

The offer must clear both the general threshold and the SOC 2129 going rate of £46,100. New-entrant and shortage discounts can lower it.
