Senior General Practitioner - ENT Tier 2

The postholder is a senior GPwER providing assessment and management of patients with ear, nose and throat conditions in a community setting, working within an agreed scope of practice at the primary-secondary care interface. The postholder works with a broader scope, greater clinical autonomy and a higher threshold of complexity than a standard GPwER post, and acts as a point of clinical escalation within the service. The post exists to expand timely, high-quality ENT care closer to home, reduce avoidable secondary care referrals, and improve equity of access for the populations served.

Qualifications

Essential

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise Inclusion on the GMC GP Register
• MRCGP or equivalent Relevant postgraduate ENT qualification or diploma

Desirable

• No conditions or undertakings relevant to the role

Experience

Essential

• Ongoing post-CCT primary care practice (a currently and continuously practising GP) Demonstrable experience managing ENT presentations in a community or intermediate setting

Desirable

• Experience working at the primary-secondary care interface in ENT Experience of remote / asynchronous clinical assessment
• Experience of remote / asynchronous clinical assessment

Leadership Skills

Essential

• Demonstrable clinical leadership Ability to supervise and support other clinicians (GPwSIs, ANPs, audiologists)

Desirable

• Experience of service development, pathway design or QI at scale Teaching or training role within a GPwSI/GPwER programme
• Teaching or training role within a GPwSI/GPwER programme

Personal

Essential

• Effective communication across professional boundaries Commitment to equity of access and reducing health inequalities

• Awareness of the populations served and their access barriers

Clinical skills

• Competence across the agreed ENT scope of practice
