Senior Healthcare Assistant in the Haemodialysis service in Guernsey

Main duties of the job

You will be supporting our service users and the nursing team in the provision of dialysis treatments in the Renal Unit at the Princess Elizbeth Hospital. The role involves direct contact with patients who are on treatment, organising unit supplies and managing specimens collected for testing in the laboratory. There is opportunity to expand the role to do phlebotomy in the kidney clinics. Training and support will be provided for the successful candidate towards the the completion of competencies.

Experience

Essential

• Experience as a Health Care Assistant in a healthcare facility

Desirable

• Previous experience of working in Renal or medical ward and/or outpatient haemodialysis setting

Skills

Essential

• Good communication skills written & oral
• Good basic computer skills using hospital software, MS Excel and Word

Ability to develop good working relationships with medical and other hospital staff at all levels

Desirable

• Venepuncture and cannulation training and sign-off
• Previous dialysis experience or training

Knowledge

Essential

• Evidence of NVQ 3 Qualification or completion of a recognised Care Certficate

Desirable

• Some familiarity with the dialysis process
