Senior Locally Employed Doctor in Paediatric Long Term Ventilation

The post-holder will hold a 12-month fixed term post working within the LTV department at RMCH. The LTV service is responsible for over 180 children and young people and are fortunate to have a transitional care unit catering for 8 Tracheostomy ventilated children awaiting stability and discharge home. We have a large MDT within our LTV service comprising of 3 consultants, discharge co-ordinators, advanced practitioner, LTV nurse educators, specialist nurses in invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and a large AHP support

Essential

• English Language Skills: Demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues and be demonstrated by having ( the following scores in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) - Overall 7.5, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7 Writing 7 or medicine version of OET with at least a grade 'B' in each testing area (speaking, listening, reading and writing) obtained in the same test.

Knowledge, Skills & Performance

Essential

• Holds primary medical qualification
• Significant experience of full-time equivalent postgraduate training
• Competence in managing medical emergencies.
• Evidence of procedural competencies in PICU (intubation, central venous access, arterial line insertion etc.)
• An appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems

A commitment to personal CPD

Desirable

• Awards/distinctions whilst studying for 1st degree
• Valid Life Support Course (APLS, ATLS, ALS or similar)
• Experience in paediatric respiratory medicine / NICU/Anaesthesia
• Involvement in Research & Publication

Essential

• Understanding of the basic principles of evidence-based practice, patient safety, audit, clinical risk management, and clinical quality improvement initiatives.
• Ability to prioritise clinical need
