Our predicted code SOC 1137 (78% match) is an eligible occupation, with a going rate of £86,000, and Plane Saver Credit Union is a licensed sponsor. That is our reading of the published rules. Whether they issue a Certificate of Sponsorship is still their call.
We are looking for a committed, values-driven individual with extensive senior-level experience in IT, including technology infrastructure, emerging technologies and the commercial aspects of technology, such as contracts and supplier arrangements. This is an opportunity to bring strategic insight, independent challenge and sound judgement to Plane Saver’s technology strategy and future direction.
About the Role
As a Non-Executive Director with expertise in IT Infrastructure and Emerging Technology, you will help the Board oversee the resilience and effectiveness of Plane Saver’s technology environment and assess how emerging technologies can support our strategy and member services. You will bring independent insight and constructive challenge to key technology decisions.
You will:
• Provide strategic oversight and constructive challenge on IT infrastructure, resilience, cyber security and technology investment
• Help the Board assess the opportunities, risks and implications of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence and automation
• Review whether our technology strategy, architecture, controls and supplier arrangements are fit for purpose and aligned with regulatory expectations
• Work with the Board and Executive Team to strengthen technology governance and long-term decision-making
This is not a technical delivery role — it is about providing independent oversight, robust challenge and sound judgement, and translating complex technology issues into clear implications for the Board.
What You Will Bring
We are looking for someone with extensive senior-level experience in IT infrastructure and a strong track record of evaluating or applying emerging technology, ideally gained in a complex or regulated organisation. You will bring:
• Strategic experience of IT infrastructure, which may include architecture, cloud platforms or technology transformation
• Insight into emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, automation and data-enabled services, with the commercial judgement to assess their opportunities, risks and practical implications Experience of operational resilience, cyber security, business continuity or third-party technology risk would be valuable, but you do not need to be a specialist in every area.
Previous NED experience is helpful but not essential. You must be commercially focused, think independently, ask incisive questions and communicate complex technology issues clearly.
Your Commitment
When you join the Board, you will take part in an initial programme of onboarding and training. This will be followed by ongoing learning and development throughout your time as a Non-Executive Director.
You will need to commit around 12–15 hours per month. This includes:
• Attending monthly Board meetings, some of which will be held in person, and virtual committee meetings
• Participating in training and development activities
• Contributing to relevant strategic projects as required In addition, Board members attend the annual Team and Board Away, held over a Friday and Saturday each summer, which includes dedicated time for Board strategic planning.
This is a voluntary, unremunerated NED role. Reasonable expenses incurred while carrying out Plane Saver business may be claimed and will be reimbursed in full. We value your time and contribution and make sure it is worthwhile.
What You Will Gain
• Board-level contribution within a highly regulated, ethical financial institution
• Access to recognised learning, leadership and professional development programmes
• Opportunities to expand your network and make a meaningful impact
• You’ll join a purposeful team and help improve our members’ financial wellbeing.
Interested?
If this sounds like the right fit for you, we would love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a brief covering letter
Your covering letter should outline:
• Why you are interested in joining Plane Saver
• The relevant IT infrastructure and emerging technology experience you would bring
• How you could contribute commercially and strategically as a Non-Executive Director

The offer must clear both the general threshold and the SOC 1137 going rate of £86,000. New-entrant and shortage discounts can lower it.
