The Senior Clinical Research Nurse is an expert nurse within the Trust for the conduct of clinical trials, academic research and studies. The postholder will work with the Early Phase CRF OncologyResearch Team in the Clinical Research Facility within a leadership and collaborative role in conjunction with Principal Investigators, Co Investigators and all clinical staff involved in the care and supervision of patients enrolled on trials. They will help with study set up, recruitment to trials, and all on-going clinical trial activity. There is the need for visibility, flexibility, expert communication and teaching skills to engender understanding and support for the research process. The Senior Research nurses are responsible for the oversight of a leadership and management of the Early Phase Oncology Research Team, oversight of a portfolio of studies, and lead in all communication to support recruitment, the reporting of clinical events, the collection of quality controlled data and effective communication with external sponsors.
The postholder will be expected to work flexibly. There may be the occasional need to work from alternative sites, out of hours or at weekends.They may also be expected to work flexibly across other clinical specialties within the Trust & the Regional Research Delivery Network.
The post holder will coordinate and manage a clinical research portfolio, working collaboratively with the Early Phase Oncology Research Team in the Clinical Research Facility, Principal Investigators and multidisciplinary teams to support patients participating in early phase Oncology clinical trials. Responsibilities include, but not limited to, screening and identifying eligible patients, maintaining detailed knowledge of study protocols, supporting recruitment in outpatient and inpatient settings, monitoring patient progress, and collecting accurate clinical trial data.
The role will also be involved with the responsibility for the safe administration of experimental treatments and monitoring patients for expected and unexpected side effects.
The role also involves acting as a key contact for patients and families by providing information, support, and advocacy to help patients make informed decisions regarding participation in research.
In addition, the post holder will support the Clinical Research Facility delivery team research by managing staff appraisals and professional development, contributing to the growth of the unit's early phase research portfolios and ensuring ethical standards are maintained throughout the research delivery process.
