Family Intervention Practitioner

Salary: £26,006.84 per annum

Location: Glasgow (North West & North East)

Contract/Hours: 12 month fixed term contract / Full time – 37 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work required to meet the needs of families. The rota includes one weekend in four.

A bit about the role

As a Family Intervention Practitioner, you’ll play a vital role within a dedicated and compassionate team. Your work will centre on building trusting relationships with families, understanding their strengths and challenges, and advocating for the needs of children and young people.

You’ll work directly with families to identify what support they need, help them navigate difficulties, and connect them with the right resources and services. Your contribution will be key in helping families create positive, lasting change and improving outcomes for children across the community.

About the Service

Glasgow Health and Social Care Partnership has launched an exciting new initiative in the North East and North West of the city, offering flexible, strengths‑based support to families who need it. This service is part of a wider, city‑wide commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people aged 0–12.

The initiative provides timely, tailored support designed to help families overcome challenges and build stable, nurturing home environments where children can thrive. A central focus is keeping children safely within their families—whether with parents, siblings, or, where appropriate, extended family members.

By helping children remain in their own communities, the service supports continuity in the relationships and environments that matter most: familiar schools, friendships, and local support networks that are essential to their wellbeing.

What you do could make a difference

Some key responsibilities of a Family Intervention Practitioner role are;

• Carry out clear and thorough assessments to understand each family’s needs, strengths, and challenges. Provide intensive support through advice, guidance, parenting help, one‑to‑one work with children, and regular communication with partner agencies.
• Plan and deliver focused support for families, review progress, and help them overcome barriers that may be affecting their wellbeing. As part of a committed and supportive team, attend meetings and work closely with other professionals to advocate for children and families.
• Work within a multi‑disciplinary team, building strong relationships with families and partner services.

Let’s talk about you

• SVQ 3 in social care or equivalent.
• Post qualification experience of working with children, young people and families and achieving positive outcomes through direct contribution with support activities and intervention.
• Experience of working with vulnerable families and a broad understanding of their barriers.
• Knowledge and experience of implementing methods of assessment and interventions.
• Able to work flexibly (evenings and weekends)
• Must be competent in report writing and using computer software packages such as Microsoft excel, Microsoft word, teams, and outlook.
