Junior Sister/Charge Nurse - Emergency Department

Are you an experienced emergency care nurse ready to take the next step in your career? We are seeking dynamic and compassionate Band 6 Adult Nurse to join our Emergency Department at Princess Royal Hospital. In this role, you will deliver expert, holistic care to critically ill patients and their families while taking on meaningful leadership responsibilities, stepping up to manage the clinical area where appropriate. You will play a key role in mentoring and developing a group of nurses within the Emergency department, acting as a trusted clinical resource across the Adult areas.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Emergency Care Nurse at King's College Hospital, you will hold a varied and rewarding role spanning clinical practice, leadership, education, and people management. Clinically, you will deliver and oversee expert, evidence-based care to critically ill patients, continuously assessing and responding to changes in their condition while ensuring accurate record-keeping and clear, compassionate communication with patients and their families. You will act as a key clinical resource within the multidisciplinary team, championing high standards of care, adherence to Trust policies, and a culture of continuous quality improvement through audit and reflection.

In your leadership capacity, you will support the Junior Nurses in your area, offering support and advice. You will play an active role in identifying and nurturing talent, supporting succession planning, and fostering a positive, inclusive team culture with zero tolerance for bullying or harassment.

From an education and development perspective, you will mentor and assess junior nurses and students, contribute to educational activities, and promote research and evidence-based practice. You will also take on link nurse responsibilities, ensuring relevant information is shared across the team, and will actively engage in your own professional development and yearly appraisal.

Education and Qualifications

Essential

• 1st level Registered Nurse with active UK NMC registration
• Further professional studies relevant to the clinical area
• Mentorship programme or equivalent teaching qualification

Desirable

• Degree in Nursing or Equivalent

Knowledge

Essential

• Demonstrable clinical expertise, relevant to the area
• Demonstrable interest in and commitment to the professional development of others
• Able to contribute to the development of students, nurses and oneself

Desirable

• An understanding of HR processes and issues pertaining to staff management
