About the role
RESPONSIBILITIES OF BOARD MEMBERS
Board Members help set Creative Scotland’s strategic direction and oversee its performance, finances, governance and management of risk. They support and constructively challenge the Executive Team, scrutinise major decisions and ensure public resources are used responsibly and effectively.
Board Members represent Creative Scotland, advise Scottish Ministers and work with partners to strengthen Scotland’s arts, screen and creative sectors.
Working with the Chair and Chief Executive, Board Members will contribute to the Board’s oversight of organisational performance, risk and financial stewardship, while supporting public-service reform and improving outcomes, reducing inequality and strengthening long-term sustainability.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED
We are looking for people who have an interest in, and experience of the culture and creative sector. You should also possess skills in collaboration, communication and constructive challenge; have good analysis and decision-making ability and some experience in Governance and Stewardship.
To help balance skills across the Board you must also demonstrate significant experience in at least ONE of the following priority areas:
- Finance and audit
- People, Culture and Organisational Change
- Experience and knowledge of the screen sector
- Experience and understanding of the creative economy
- Experience and understanding of data and artificial intelligence and its impact on and use in the culture sector
