WGM Engineering, part of RSK Group, is looking for an experienced
Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing
Technical & Design team on a
permanent, full-time basis. Based in
Govan, Glasgow, the role benefits from
hybrid working and the benefit of a 9-day working fortnight,
with every second Friday off.
You will develop electrical design solutions across multidisciplinary engineering projects, working from concept and optioneering through detailed design and construction support. Working closely with Mechanical, Process, Civil and ICA teams, you will help create safe, practical and buildable solutions for essential infrastructure.
You do not need to come directly from the water sector. We are interested in people with relevant electrical design experience from utilities, energy, industrial, process, manufacturing, infrastructure or other technically complex engineering environments who can bring transferable capability into WGM.
WGM is growing through secured long-term frameworks across the UK water sector. With in-house technical design, project delivery, off-site manufacturing and modular build capability, our engineers work close to delivery and can see how their designs translate into construction, commissioning and long-term asset performance.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Develop client concepts and project requirements into practical electrical design solutions.
- Produce LV electrical designs, calculations, schedules, specifications, SLDs and associated technical documentation.
- Undertake cable sizing and electrical calculations in accordance with BS 7671 using Trimble ProDesign or equivalent software.
- Support the selection and specification of transformers, generators, switchgear, MCCs, motors, VSDs and associated electrical equipment.
Undertake site surveys and gather technical information to support design development.Coordinate electrical designs with Process, Mechanical, Civil and ICA disciplines.Support instrumentation, control and automation interfaces where required.Participate in design reviews, technical authority reviews and client meetings.Ensure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, CDM 2015 and applicable regulatory requirements.Support construction teams with technical queries while contributing to DfMA, standardisation, energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
What You’ll Bring
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:
- Relevant experience delivering electrical design within engineering, infrastructure, utilities, industrial, process or a comparable technical environment.
- Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Good knowledge of LV electrical distribution design and BS 7671.
- Experience producing electrical calculations, SLDs, schedules, specifications and technical documentation.
- Experience with cable sizing, earthing, motor control and electrical equipment selection.
- Experience using Trimble ProDesign, ElectricalOM, Amtech or equivalent electrical design software.
- Strong communication, technical problem-solving and multidisciplinary working skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Experience within water or wastewater, knowledge of WIMES, or experience with Scottish Water, United Utilities, Southern Water or other UK water frameworks would be advantageous but not essential.
Experience with PLC/SCADA, telemetry, instrumentation, DSEAR/ATEX, HV/MV systems, electrical protection, AutoCAD, Revit or BIM/CDE environments would also be beneficial.
Working towards IEng or CEng professional registration would be welcomed. Please note WGM can support your route to chartership.
