Locum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon

Our Essex Cardiothoracic Centre has an exciting opportunity to appoint a Locum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon for 6-months.

You will be expected to work within a dynamic group of surgeons who deliver a comprehensive breadth of cardiac surgical activity with numerous sub-specialist areas of interest to provide an individual Cardiac Surgical service of the highest quality including, ensuring that standards are maintained and developed through clinical audit, evidence based research and appraisal. To work flexibly with colleagues to achieve the hospitals agreed planned activity.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential

• MBBS or Equivalent
• Entry on GMC Specialist Register; eligible for entry on Register or within six months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of training (CCT) at time of interview

Experiance and knowledge

Essential

• Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in the specialty
• Demonstrates good knowledge of the structures and culture of the NHS, roles, responsibilities and relationships across the MDT and the multi-professional team

Desirable

• Specific experience in an area sub-specialist surgery (e.g. MVR, mini-MVR, Aortic)

Research and Audit

Essential

• Knowledge of the principles of research/audit and ability to interpret and apply clinical research.

Desirable

• Recent published clinical research in peer reviewed journal.

Ability to supervise postgraduate research

Commmuication

Essential

• Excellent written skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with clinical colleagues, other specialties and support staff
