SOC 2136 (80% match) is an eligible occupation, with a going rate of £41,700, and James Chase is a licensed sponsor. That is our reading of the rules. Whether they issue a Certificate of Sponsorship is still their call.
This could also be SOC 2134 (Programmers and software development professionals, Platform/DevOps engineering with GitHub Actions and Kubernetes is substantial) or SOC 2139 (Information technology professionals not elsewhere classified., DevOps engineer index entry fits the platform engineering side). We read the code off the advert, so it is our best guess, not the employer's.
Platform & Quality Engineer (Agentic)
Contract | London / Hybrid | GitHub Actions | AWS | Kubernetes | Playwright | Claude Code
We’re looking for an experienced Platform & Quality Engineer to join a small, specialist engineering team building a new digital delivery platform for a major multi-brand organisation.
This is an unusual hybrid role combining platform/DevOps engineering, automated testing and AI-assisted software delivery.
We’re looking for someone who sits comfortably between an SDET and Platform Engineer – somebody who can build the delivery pipelines the engineering team relies on, but who also has genuine depth around test strategy, automation and software quality.
The role
The engagement will broadly move through two phases.
Initially, you’ll take ownership of the team's delivery capability – building the GitHub Actions pipelines, GitOps delivery path and environments that allow changes to move quickly and reliably from development into running environments.
As the platform matures, your focus will increasingly move towards quality engineering and automated PR review.
A major part of this will involve using Claude Code within the CI/CD process, helping build and continually improve an automated quality gate that reviews code and generates meaningful test coverage.
You’ll also own the human side of the testing strategy, including exploratory testing and UAT where automation isn't the right answer.
What you'll be doing
What we're looking for
You'll ideally have strong experience across:
Crucially, we're looking for someone who is already using AI coding tools as part of their day-to-day engineering workflow.
Experience with Claude Code would be particularly valuable. You should be comfortable using AI to help generate, review and maintain code and test suites rather than simply experimenting with it occasionally.
Experience with areas such as Datadog, Turborepo, CloudFront, visual regression, accessibility testing, performance testing or security automation would also be useful.
The person
This could suit an experienced SDET / Quality Engineer who has developed deep CI/CD and platform expertise, or a Platform/DevOps Engineer who has genuine depth in automated testing and quality engineering.
We're particularly interested in engineers who think of the pipeline as a product – people who care about fast feedback, meaningful automation and making the development experience better for the whole team.
You'll be joining a small, highly collaborative team, so we're looking for somebody comfortable taking ownership while building solutions that the wider team can understand and maintain.
Location
You'll need to be within reasonable travelling distance of London, with some in-person collaboration required during the engagement.
Applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
If you're an engineer who enjoys sitting at the intersection of Platform Engineering, Quality Engineering and AI-assisted development, we'd be very interested in speaking with you.

The offer must clear both the general threshold and the SOC 2136 going rate of £41,700. New-entrant and shortage discounts can lower it.
