Sonographer

The post-holder will work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team in Imaging, liaising with those involved to ensure the appropriate imaging, reporting and management of the patient is provided when and where necessary. They will maintain a high professional and technical standard of ultrasound imaging. The Sonographer will undertake clinical work within established quality standards of practice, adhering to Ultrasound Guidelines such as those published by BMUS, RCOG, RCR and NICE. The post-holder will work as a practitioner in the delivery of all ultrasound imaging, reporting and management of the patient within the department protocols. The post- holder will liaise with key Lead Nurses, Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in the directorate of Women and Children’s. In the absence of a Site Lead Sonographer, the post-holder will oversee the day-to-day workload to ensure staff and resources are allocated to the area and managed effectively. They will promote patient advocacy and communicate effectively with other health care professionals together with outside agencies regarding patient care and progress.

• To professionally and legally take responsibility to ensure a high standard of clinical care and patient welfare for all patients whilst in the Department and under your management, supporting more junior staff to do likewise.
• To interpret, analyse and report clinical and non-clinical facts to form an accurate and justified procedure in a wide range of complex conditions. To recommend the best course of imaging intervention and procedure and provide optimum quality images for accurate diagnosis.
• To carry out comprehensive assessments demonstrating skills while working independently on a wide range of patients / clients of varied ages, levels of ability, communication barriers, ethnic backgrounds and social status.
• To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of patients in working area, and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To assess capacity, gain valid informed consent and have the ability to work within the legal framework with patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment (including intimate examinations such as Transvaginal and Testes scanning).
