Position Description
At CGI, we help clients modernise complex technology estates with the insight and confidence needed to deliver change successfully. As a Technical Architect, working on one of our flagship accounts, on an application upgrade programme, you’ll create the reliable technical foundations that enable informed architecture decisions and successful application upgrades. You’ll take ownership of understanding existing application environments, rebuilding incomplete designs and establishing accurate technical baselines across the estate. Working closely with Solution Architects, Technical Leads and subject matter experts, you’ll have the opportunity to solve complex technical challenges and improve how architectural knowledge is captured and used. You’ll be supported by an experienced, collaborative team while having the autonomy to strengthen technical quality, reduce delivery risk and make a tangible contribution to a major transformation programme.
CGI was recognised in the Sunday Times Best Places to Work List 2025 and has been named a UK ‘Best Employer’ by the Financial Times. We offer a competitive salary, excellent pension, private healthcare, plus a share scheme (3.5% + 3.5% matching) which makes you a CGI Partner not just an employee. We are committed to inclusivity, building a genuinely diverse community of tech talent and inspiring everyone to pursue careers in our sector, including our Armed Forces, and are proud to hold a Gold Award in recognition of our support of the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant. Join us and you’ll be part of an open, friendly community of experts. We’ll train and support you in taking your career wherever you want it to go.
This is a hybrid position but there is an expectation of working at CGI and our Client’s offices in Glasgow for 3 days a week.
Your future duties and responsibilities
In this role, you will take ownership of reviewing, reconstructing and maintaining technical designs across a complex application estate. Working under the direction of the Application Upgrade Programme (AUP) Solution Architecture function, you’ll assess existing High Level Designs (HLDs), investigate gaps and inconsistencies, and work with technical specialists to establish an accurate picture of implemented application environments.
You’ll bring structure and creative problem solving to situations where technical information is incomplete or outdated, capturing hosting, infrastructure, integrations, dependencies, security and operational characteristics. Supported by Solution Architects, Technical Leads and SMEs, you’ll create reliable technical baselines that strengthen governance, identify risks earlier and give programme teams the information they need to deliver application upgrades confidently.
- Review & Maintain: Assess and update HLDs and supporting technical documentation across the application estate.
Reconstruct & Document: Rebuild technical designs where existing documentation is incomplete, inconsistent or unavailable. Discover & Analyse: Work with technical specialists to understand implemented application environments and establish the facts behind existing designs. Capture & Baseline: Document hosting, infrastructure, interfaces, integrations, dependencies, security and operational characteristics. Assure & Improve: Ensure technical documentation is accurate, consistent and sufficiently detailed to support architecture and delivery. Identify & Escalate: Recognise material architectural changes, discrepancies and technical risks and route them through the appropriate architecture governance. Collaborate & Influence: Build effective working relationships with Solution Architects, Technical Leads, SMEs and programme delivery teams. Enable & Deliver: Maintain reliable technical baselines that support informed decisions, programme governance and successful application upgrade milestones.
