Why a sponsored search takes longer than you think

Every figure below is public data, and every one is linked. Worth two minutes before you pick a billing period.

“Notably, 13% are unemployed and looking for work, compared to just 3% of UK PGT graduates.”

— HESA Graduate Outcomes 2022/23, via UKCISA

That survey checks in 15 months after the course ends, so those 13% had been looking for over a year.

“50% of these individuals switched into a work visa or Student visa, either prior to or when their Graduate visa expired.”

— Migration Advisory Committee, Graduate route: rapid review (2024)

The other half did not, and a Graduate visa does not renew.

“Following increases to the skill level requirements, over 100 occupations are no longer eligible for the Skilled Worker visa route.”

— Home Office, immigration system statistics (2026)

That took effect on 22 July 2025. The same release puts grants to main applicants down 30% in the year to June 2026.

“Those who were working described it taking a considerable amount of time to find a job, typically between four to six months from when they started applying.”

— UK Home Office, Graduate visa holders in the UK: a qualitative study (2024)

That is any job, and only among the people who found one. A Graduate visa lets you work without a sponsor, so it does not measure a sponsored search.
