Location: Site-based – UK
Contract: Permanent, full-time
The Vacancy
At
Binnies, we’re growing our construction and Design & Build teams across the UK, and we’re looking for experienced
Construction Site Managers to join us.
If you enjoy leading teams, solving problems and seeing projects come to life on site, this could be a great opportunity to take the next step in your career.
As a Construction Site Manager, you’ll play a key role in delivering our projects safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You’ll lead day-to-day site activities, work closely with our supply chain and project teams, and help ensure everything runs smoothly from planning through to completion.
We know that successful projects are about more than just getting the job done. Our
ENGAGED culture is built around collaboration, respect, inclusion and continuous improvement. We want our people to feel supported, valued and confident in sharing ideas, raising concerns and finding better ways of working.
We’re looking for people who bring strong construction experience, a practical approach to problem-solving and a genuine commitment to getting the best out of their teams.
About The Role
As Construction Site Manager, you’ll take responsibility for the day-to-day running of your site, making sure work is properly planned, coordinated and delivered to the required standards.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading on site: Manage daily construction activities, coordinate site teams and subcontractors, and keep work progressing in line with the programme.
- Keeping people safe: Make health, safety and wellbeing a priority, ensuring safe systems of work are followed and risks are managed effectively.
- Planning and coordination: Make sure the right people, plant, materials, equipment and information are available when needed.
Managing quality: Ensure work meets the required standards, inspections are completed and any defects or issues are addressed. Monitoring progress: Track delivery against programme, identify potential delays or challenges early, and work with the wider team to find solutions. Working collaboratively: Build strong relationships with Project Managers, Design, Commercial, Planning, SHEQ, MEICA, Commissioning and other project teams. Managing site requirements: Coordinate access, logistics, permits, welfare, traffic management and interfaces with clients, stakeholders and operational sites. Maintaining records: Keep accurate site diaries, progress reports, inspection records and other project documentation up to date. Supporting commercial delivery: Identify and escalate changes, delays and issues that could affect project costs, programme or contractual commitments. Thinking sustainably: Help deliver our environmental commitments and identify opportunities to reduce waste, carbon and resource use. Supporting project completion: Work with the wider team to manage the transition from construction through installation, commissioning, handover and demobilisation. Driving improvement: Share lessons learned, encourage new ideas and look for practical ways to improve safety, quality and productivity.
You’ll also support early contractor involvement, buildability reviews and construction planning, helping ensure projects are ready for successful delivery.
Above all, you’ll lead by example, create a positive working environment and ensure that any activity presenting an unacceptable risk is stopped and made safe before work continues.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for an experienced construction professional who can confidently manage site activities, bring people together and deliver results.
You’ll ideally have:
- Proven experience managing construction activities and site teams within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or a similar environment.
A recognised construction management qualification, such as an NVQ Level 6, or an appropriate equivalent. A CSCS Black Manager Card, or be working towards an appropriate recognised equivalent. SMSTS and First Aid at Work qualifications. A strong understanding of health and safety, safe systems of work, construction risk management and CDM 2015. Experience planning and coordinating construction activities to meet programme, quality and project requirements. A good understanding of construction quality processes, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), inspections and site records. Commercial awareness and the ability to recognise and escalate changes, delays and potential risks. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and supply-chain partners. Good organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and changing site requirements. Confidence using digital tools and project information systems, including Common Data Environments (CDEs), BIM-enabled delivery tools and digital site management systems. A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Just as importantly, you’ll be a supportive and approachable leader who takes pride in doing things properly and helping others succeed.
Your Leadership Style Matters
At Binnies, we want our Site Managers to do more than manage tasks and programmes. We want leaders who bring out the best in their teams.
Our ENGAGED behaviours are an important part of how we work, and you’ll help bring these to life by:
- Creating an inclusive environment where people feel respected, supported and comfortable speaking up.
- Communicating clearly, listening to others and valuing the experience of the people doing the work.
- Building strong relationships across site teams, clients, subcontractors and the wider project team.
Supporting and developing others, including Site Supervisors, Assistant Site Managers, Graduates and Apprentices. Recognising good work and addressing challenges fairly and constructively. Bringing different disciplines together to work towards a shared goal. Staying calm and solution-focused when priorities change or problems arise. Sharing knowledge and lessons learned to help everyone continually improve.
Desirable Experience and Development
The following would also be beneficial, depending on the project and its requirements:
- An HNC, HND, degree or equivalent qualification in Construction, Civil Engineering, Project Management or a related discipline.
- A relevant Level 6 NVQ in Construction Site Management or equivalent.
- Experience within the water industry, including relevant training required by the client or project.
- Environmental management training relevant to construction activities.
- Experience or appropriate competence in higher-risk activities, such as temporary works, lifting operations, excavations, confined spaces, utilities and working at height.
- Membership of, or a commitment to working towards membership of, a relevant professional body.
- Experience of electronic permit systems and digital quality management tools.
Where required for your role and project, we’ll also support relevant training and development in areas such as Temporary Works Co-ordination (TWC), Approved Person (AP) or Approved Person Isolation (API), in line with the relevant appointments and competence requirements.
Career Development
We want our people to have the opportunity to grow their careers with us.
Depending on your experience, performance and future opportunities, your career could progress from Site Manager to Senior Site Manager, Construction Manager or Project Manager.
There may also be opportunities to develop your skills across different projects, disciplines and areas of project delivery. We’ll support your development as you build your experience and work towards your career goals.
