About The Job
Join our Risk R&D department where technology innovation, strategic architecture, and domain expertise come together to deliver industry-leading Risk solutions. As a Software Development Manager on the AI, Architecture, and Innovation team, your primary focus will be hands-on software development and technical leadership. This role combines active participation in the design, development, testing, and delivery of software with a smaller amount of managerial and administrative responsibility.
This is not a traditional people-management position. While you will support and develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and performance management, the majority of your time will be spent working alongside the team: designing solutions, writing code, reviewing implementations, troubleshooting issues, and helping drive successful delivery of key initiatives.
As a Manager, Software Development, You Will
- Lead development project designs and enforce technical standards.
- Provide technical leadership to the team through code reviews, mentoring, training and managing the activities of the team.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders (other managers, developers, user interface designers, product managers) to ensure implementation satisfies functional requirements and is consistent with established R&D standards.
- Requires a minimum of eight years of related programming or testing experience, including one year of project lead, supervisory or management experience. Eight years of professional programming or testing experience may be considered in lieu of previous management experience.
- Bachelors degree in computer science or a related field
- Strong knowledge of generative AI, the software development lifecycle, and at least one object-oriented language.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor or lead others, set clear goals and expectations, provide timely feedback, and build an inclusive and accountable engineering culture.
- Fostering a work environment that encourages people to act with integrity and treat each other and their ideas with respect; creating and protecting a high-trust environment by setting an example, advocating for others in the face of challenges, removing barriers to trust, and rewarding others for demonstrating behaviors that cultivate trust. Provides feedback both reinforcing and constructive regarding the behaviors of his/her managers.
- Identifying and leveraging opportunities to accelerate results and build capability by assigning tasks and decision-making responsibilities to individuals or teams with clear boundaries, expectations, support, and follow-up.
- Motivating individuals toward higher levels of performance that are aligned with the organization’s vision and values.
- Experience in leading projects to deliver high quality, scalable, performant and secure code.
- Experience in CI/CD and DevOps using GitHub, Jenkins, Azure DevOps or similar tools.
- Experience with collaboration tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Experience with Agile practices.
- Experience in multiple development languages (SAS, Python, Go, JavaScript, React)
- Experience of container technologies (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes)
- Experience with the SAS Viya platform.
- Knowledge of the financial risk industry or our SAS Risk solutions.
- 6+ years of programming or testing experience
