About Amber Labs
The digital transformation partner for highly regulated industries. Our teams deliver digital transformation for organisations operating in complex, highly regulated environments. From securing national borders to supporting critical defence operations, we deliver secure AI, data, cloud and software solutions across high-stakes programmes.
What You'll Be Doing
We're looking for SC Cleared Performance Testers to join us on a permanent basis, supporting a major UK government transformation programme focused on building secure, scalable cloud platforms that underpin critical digital services.
You'll play a key role in making sure these services are fast, resilient and able to perform at scale. You'll design, build and run performance tests, analyse the results and work closely with delivery teams to identify and resolve bottlenecks before they affect the people who rely on these services.
We're looking for someone with strong, hands-on Performance Testing experience using JMeter, who is comfortable turning test results into clear, practical recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
You'll be responsible for:
• Designing, scripting and executing performance tests using JMeter across secure cloud platforms
• Planning and running load, stress, soak and spike tests to validate performance and scalability
• Working with delivery teams to define and validate non-functional requirements such as response times, throughput and capacity
• Analysing test results to identify performance bottlenecks and recommend improvements
• Using monitoring and observability tools to investigate performance issues across applications and infrastructure
• Producing clear test reports and presenting findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Supporting the integration of performance tests into CI/CD pipelines
• Collaborating with engineers, architects and testers within agile, multi-disciplinary delivery teams
What We're Looking For
You will need:
• Strong, hands-on experience in Performance Testing
• Strong experience designing, scripting and maintaining test plans using Apache JMeter
• Experience with parameterisation, correlation and assertions to build realistic, reusable test scenarios
• Experience planning and running load, stress, soak and spike tests
• Experience defining and validating non-functional requirements
• Experience performance testing applications and services hosted on cloud platforms
• Ability to analyse results, identify bottlenecks and provide clear recommendations
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings clearly
• Active SC Clearance, used within the last 12 months
• Sole UK citizenship
Desirable Experience
• Running JMeter tests at scale using distributed or cloud-based load generation
• Integrating performance tests into CI/CD pipelines
• Experience with monitoring, APM or observability tools
• Experience working within UK government or other highly regulated environments
Please note: Due to the secure nature of this work, we can only consider candidates who hold sole UK citizenship and active SC Clearance that has been used within the last 12 months.

How We Work
We've worked hard to build a team of people who are experts at what they do. Because of that, we'll trust you to get on with your job and give you the space to do it well. But you'll always have plenty of support around you whenever you need it, whether that's to sense-check an approach, tackle a tricky client challenge or simply bounce ideas around.
We keep our structure flat and our processes straightforward. If you have a good idea, you'll be encouraged to run with it, and if something could be done better, we'll encourage you to say so. Ultimately, we work with people who take pride in their work, support their team and want to leave things better than they found them.
What Happens Next?
Once you've applied, our in-house Talent team will review your application and, if it looks like there could be a good fit, they'll be in touch.
For most of our roles, there are two interview stages: one focusing on your experience and delivery expertise, and another focusing on how you communicate, collaborate and approach your work.
A Human Approach to Hiring
We use AI responsibly, in our client projects and internally. When it comes to hiring, though, there are always real people behind the process. Decisions throughout the recruitment process, from CV review and progressing to interview through to making an offer, are made by our Talent team.
Diversity & Inclusion
Amber Labs is an equal opportunities employer, and we're committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to do their best work, regardless of background, identity or experience.
If there's anything we can do to make the recruitment process more accessible or comfortable for you, just let our Talent team know and we'll be happy to help.
