This role may qualify, but only under another code
Our best guess, SOC 5250, is not on the eligible-occupation list. The job could also be SOC 5330, which is on it, so we rate it Possible at most. Ask JSM GROUP SERVICES LIMITED what the duties are.
We pick the code from the advert's text, so it is our best guess, not the employer's. Each code it could be has its own likelihood:
You'll run the works face on 132kV cable projects supervising ducting, cable pulling, jointing and substation civils under live highways and into operational substations, safely and on programme.
ABOUT JSM
JSM Group designs and builds the power networks and digital infrastructure that clients across the UK, Europe and beyond depend on, from high-voltage grid connections and critical utilities to data centres and renewable energy. Our civil, power and digital engineers work under one roof, giving clients one team from design to energisation, with the technical, commercial and consenting risk managed from day one.
Belonging here isn’t accidental; it’s engineered. Our values of personal responsibility, sound judgment, and drive shape how we work, and you’ll get work that stretches you and support to develop fast. See life at JSM at careers.jsmgroup.com.
ABOUT THE TEAM
You'll join our Power business, which designs and builds the networks that carry energy where it's needed, including high-voltage cable routes under live highways and into operational substations. You'll report daily to the project manager and work with gangs, jointers and subcontractors, the client and DNO/IDNO representatives.
THE ROLE
This is a hands-on site role. You'll supervise the day-to-day delivery of civil works in highways and substations, focused on ducting, cable installation and the associated jointing and substation works, keeping everything on the ground to JSM, DNO and IDNO standards, safety rules and programme.
What you'll do
• Run the works face daily briefings and toolbox talks, allocating labour, plant and materials, and supervising gangs, jointers and subcontractors
• Control permits to work, points of isolation and safe systems of work in live environments, stopping work and escalating where standards aren't met
• Inspect works as they're installed, carrying out quality checks and ITP sign-off
• Act as the site contact for the client, DNO/IDNO representatives and subcontractors, reporting progress against programme to the project manager every day
• Keep site records current: diaries, timesheets, permits, as-builts and materials and support testing, commissioning, snagging and handover
Good to know: this is a site-based role on live highways and in operational substations.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
Essential
• Proven site supervision of HV cabling works up to 132kV or above, in highways and substation environments for DNOs or IDNOs
• Strong practical knowledge of ducting, cable pulling, jointing and substation civils, and experience supervising direct labour and subcontract gangs in live environments
• Experience working to permits, points of isolation and DNO/IDNO safety rules, with working knowledge of CDM and NRSWA
• Confidence working from drawings, cable schedules, method statements and risk assessments, and keeping accurate site records and daily reports
• SSSTS, SWQR Blue (Supervisor), CSCS/EUSR card, First Aid at Work and TWC/TWS certification
Nice to have
• SMSTS
• NRSWA Supervisor (Streetworks) units
• IOSH Managing Safely and confined spaces (medium risk) training
You'll thrive here if you
• Lead by example on safety and aren't afraid to challenge unsafe practice
• Make sound calls in fast-moving site situations, escalating early when needed
• Take pride in getting installation right the first time, with a sharp eye for detail
• Know that good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction
Don't tick every box? Apply anyway. We look at what you've delivered and what you're capable of — not just the list.
WHAT WE OFFER
• Pay & reward — competitive salary, performance-linked bonus and car allowance (where applicable), 4% matched pension
• Time off — 28 days' annual leave plus bank holidays
• Health & wellbeing — BUPA health cash plan, Benenden Health, employee assistance programme
• Career growth — funded training through our Training Centre and Competency Cloud, and support to gain further tickets and qualifications
• Extras — electric car salary-sacrifice scheme
