About the role
The Metropolitan Police Service is moving through a period of change and is currently recruiting a Performance, Risk & Assurance Lead on an initial 6-month contract.
You will lead the development and implementation of performance, governance, risk and assurance frameworks across a complex directorate, ensuring leadership teams have the insight and controls required to effectively manage strategic priorities and operational delivery.
They need a highly analytical and strategic professional to establish robust reporting, governance and assurance processes, whilst providing senior stakeholders with meaningful performance insights and risk management expertise.
It will be based in London and will offer hybrid working with 3 days in the office required per week.
About the Role
As Performance, Risk & Assurance Lead, you'll be responsible for creating and embedding a comprehensive performance and assurance framework that supports organisational objectives and drives accountability across the directorate.
You'll work closely with senior leaders, operational managers and corporate functions to develop KPI frameworks, oversee risk management activities, coordinate governance arrangements and produce executive-level reporting.
You'll provide assurance to leadership teams on organisational performance, emerging risks and delivery against strategic priorities, whilst identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and enhanced decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of performance management, governance and assurance frameworks
- Design and maintain executive dashboards, KPI reporting and management information packs
- Develop and oversee risk management processes, including risk registers and mitigation plans
- Provide strategic insight and recommendations to senior leadership teams
- Coordinate governance boards, committees and assurance activities
The ideal candidate
- Degree or professional qualification in Business Management, Risk, Governance, Audit, Performance Management or a related discipline OR equivalent experience within a Performance, Governance, Risk or Assurance leadership role
- Experience designing and implementing performance management frameworks within a large and complex organisation
- Strong understanding of governance, assurance and risk management principles
- Experience producing executive-level reporting, dashboards and management information
- Proven ability to influence and challenge senior stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities
- Experience facilitating governance forums and senior leadership meetings
- Advanced Microsoft Excel, Power BI or other reporting and visualisation tools
- Ability to interpret and present complex information in a clear and meaningful way
- Experience within the public sector, central government, NHS or another regulated environment would be highly desirable
