Residential Childcare Worker - Nights

Dumbrock House is a place where young people can take those all-important steps towards a brighter future. Whether it is building confidence, developing new skills, or simply finding their feet, we are here to support every child and young person as they grow. Each day brings new opportunities to get involved, explore the local area, and enjoy those small but meaningful moments of connection and belonging.

As a Night Support Practitioner at Dumbrock, you'll help create a safe, nurturing environment where young people feel supported and understood. Working independently throughout the night, you'll use your confidence, sound judgement and calm approach to respond to their individual needs.

This role is initially offered on a six-month fixed-term basis, but there may be opportunities to extend your time at Dumbrock or continue working within another CrossReach service, depending on future vacancies and service needs.

What Your Night Could Look Like

• Providing reassurance and emotional support to children and young people who may be unsettled, anxious or distressed.
• Maintaining a safe, welcoming and structured environment throughout the night.
• Responding calmly and appropriately to incidents or unexpected situations, using a therapeutic and relationship-focused approach.
• Supporting individual care plans, maintaining accurate records and sharing important information with colleagues.
• Encouraging independence and supporting everyday routines where needed.
• Preparing for a smooth transition into the day shift, ensuring continuity of care and support.

About You

You'll bring experience of working in care and/or education, with an understanding of the importance of positive relationships in supporting children and young people. You'll be compassionate, patient and confident working independently, with the ability to assess situations, make sound decisions and respond appropriately when challenges arise. You'll understand attachment-informed practice, communicate effectively and be comfortable taking responsibility throughout your shift. Good organisational, recording and IT skills are important, along with experience of group work and a full manual driving licence.

You'll need to hold, or be willing to work towards within the required registration period, an HNC in Social Care and SVQ Level 3, and meet the requirements for Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration. This post also requires membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

• Valuable experience in residential childcare and therapeutic, relationship-focused support.
• The opportunity to be part of a dedicated team making a meaningful difference to young people's lives.
• The possibility of further career opportunities within Dumbrock or across CrossReach's wider services.
